Appointments with Cook Genetics are conducted via telehealth and will be focused on Hereditary Cancer Predispositions.
Cook Genetics Assessment and Testing, LLC, was founded by Courtney M. Cook, MS, LCGC, in March 2020. What does MS, LCGC, stand for? We're glad you asked, because it took many years to earn all of those letters! It stands for "Master of Science, Licensed Certified Genetic Counselor." Courtney is a nationally board certified genetic counselor, and she holds genetic counseling licenses to practice in several states, including Illinois. She is the first and only genetic counselor in the South-Central Illinois and Southern Illinois region. Please see her About Courtney Cook page to learn more.
The company name "Cook Genetics Assessment and Testing" is a scientific play on words. We know DNA is made up of cytosine (C), guanine (G), adenine (A), and thymine (T). Not only is CGAT our company acronym, but those are also the letters that make up DNA. There's your science geek fun fact of the day!
Cook Genetics offers private practice genetic counseling and testing services, primarily for hereditary cancer predispositions. We assess your personal medical history, family cancer history, and genetic testing results in detail in order to provide you with personalized screening and management recommendations. We may also offer genetic counseling for other indications on a case-by-case basis. We will give you the tools and information you need in order to be as proactive and preventative as possible.
We strive to make genetic counseling services available to those living in South-Central Illinois and Southern Illinois, but we do offer telehealth appointments to those living in other states. Our goal is to empower you to be your own advocate for your future health and the health of your family.
